The recipient of the Berkeley Citation—the highest honor for contributions to his field and to the university—Dr. Mehta is an honorary member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and a member of its Committee on Sustainable Development.

Paulo J. M. Monteiro, Ph.D. is Roy W. Carlson Distinguished Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of California at Berkeley, and Faculty Scientist, Department of Materials, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Dr. Monteiro is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and of the American Concrete Institute (ACI). He has authored or co-authored numerous journal articles, conference proceedings, and reports in addition to having co-authored the second and third editions of this book.
