How do I use the Search option?

The search engine enables you to conduct a comprehensive search on the entire catalogue and dictionary.

Procedure:

1. Key in the search keyword or phrase in the ‘Search’ textbox.
2. Select the radio button to search all topics or to search dictionary and then click on Go. If you are particular about the topic, go to Advanced Search.
3. The ‘search all topics’ results will display the
   1. List of category/ies
   2. Number of Books in which the search word/phrase has been located.
   3. Title
   4. Book
   5. Author
   6. The page numbers containing the word
   7. A few lines from those pages
   8. Few/more hits link
4. Click on any of the Article links ie Title or the Sample Preview button to view the content.
5. Click on Add to Cart to purchase the article.
6. To view more results in the same article click on More hits in this article
7. The ‘dictionary search’ will display only the meaning of the word.

How do I use the Advanced Search option?

The advanced search engine enables you to conduct a comprehensive, focused search on the entire catalogue with highly relevant results.

Procedure:

1. Click on Advanced Search.
2. Key in the search keyword or phrase in the ‘Search’ textbox.
3. Choose an option from the ‘Search Operation’ drop-down box; this will determine the modus operandi of the search operation.
   Or: If the search text contains a phrase i.e. more than one word, the search engine will split it and search for lines containing each word separately.
   And: If the search text contains a phrase i.e. more than one word, the search will split it and search for lines containing all the words in the phrase
4. Check the ‘Stemming’ check box if you want Search to truncate the suffix or the last two or three characters of the word and look for all possible related words.
   E.g. If the search text is “communicate”, it will look for “communicate, communicates, communicated, communication, communications, communicator” etc.
5. Select the radio button to search all topics or to search any particular topics. If you are particular about the topic, select the checkboxes suiting your requirement from the list of categories of books.
6. If you would like to define the number of search results to be displayed per page, select an option from the ‘Display Results’ pane and click on Search.
7. The search results will display
   1. List of category/ies
   2. Number of books in which the search word/phrase has been located.
   3. Title
   4. Book
   5. Author
   6. The page numbers containing the word
   7. A few lines from those pages
8. The list of category/ies and number of books in which the search word/phrase has been located. The Title, Book, Author, a few lines from the books is displayed.
9. Click on any of the Article links i.e. Title or the Sample Preview button to view the content.
10. Click on Add to Cart to purchase the article.

What is Stemming?

Stemming is the reducing of words to their root. Stemming uses the faculties of truncation to strip a word down to its root and then searches for relevant variations of the root. In other words, stemming allows you to search for all the linguistic variants of a word, based on a common stem.

For example: If the search text is communicate, it will look for communicate, communicates, communicated, communication, communications, communicator etc.

3. The ‘dictionary search’ will display only the meaning of the word.
