This project focuses on the Material Classification of Metals. In this project, Physical and Mechanical Properties of commonly used Metals are explored.

The student learning outcomes for this project are as follows:

1. Students will understand the range densities for common engineering Metals as compared to other Material Classifications such as Thermoplastics. Students will understand the differences in Densities of common Steels and Aluminum Alloys.

2. Students will compare Steels, Aluminums and Thermoplastics for Tensile Yield Strength and Tensile Elastic Modulus.

3. Students will understand the different types of Steels and compare the technical properties of these Steels. Students will understand the differences between the properties of Steels and Aluminums.

4. Students will explore Poisson's Ratio and be able to make a material selection for a long rod under axial compressive load to minimize strain in the diameter of the rod.
