A JIT Example
A JIT ExampleIn this section we develop a detailed but simple example to show how MPC approaches based on MRP would be modified to implement JIT and describe the necessary building blocks (Figure 13.4) to achieve this. The product is a 1-liter saucepan produced in four models by the Muth Pots and Pans Company. (See Figure 13.5.) The product's brochure sums up its importance: "If you ain't got a Muth, you ain't got a pot." We'll look at elements of a JIT program for the saucepan that range from leveling production to redesigning the product. Some of these elements have direct MPC relevance; others will affect MPC only indirectly.
