HIGH CELL DENSITY CULTURES (HCDCs) Introduction High cell density cultures are used to achieve higher bioreactor efficiencies. A high cell density culture is characterized by having at least 10 times the normal cell density of a common batch reactor. For yeasts, archaea, and bacteria, this means biomass concentrations greater than 100 g/L.
