Materials HandlingMaterials handling is the moving of materials about a manufacturing plant and can refer to raw materials as well as parts of a product that must be moved from one machine to another or from one part of the plant to another for further processing. Moving the material adds no value to the product, yet it has to be done. This means that industry must keep its materials-handling costs down.Manufacturers depend heavily on conveyors to move parts and materials. Conveyors are synchronized with robots so that parts or materials are where they are supposed to be when they are needed. The conveyors are connected to controllers so that their operations are synchronized with the machines doing the value-added work (
