10111051011304Work and EnergyWe have seen how to use displacement, velocity, acceleration, and force to describe the behavior of some simple mechanical systems. With this background we now develop an alternate approach based on Newton's laws that is simpler and very widely applicable. The concepts of work and energy will enable us to extend our previous analysis to complicated systems like the human body, the ecosystem in which we live, and chemical and nuclear reactions.
